Questions

Sincere questions are welcome.

Questions are essential to Masonic education. Whether you are an Entered Apprentice or a long-serving Master Mason, thoughtful questions help all of us learn.

Examples of good questions

  • How should I begin studying Masonic symbolism?
  • What makes a good lodge education paper?
  • How do I distinguish history, tradition, and allegory?
  • What should newer Brethren read first?
  • How do I prepare a short paper for my mother lodge?
  • What is the most careful way to read legendary material?

How to ask well

  • • Be sincere and specific. Vague questions get vague answers.
  • • Share what you have already read or considered.
  • • Distinguish history, tradition, and allegory where you can.
  • • Treat replies and the Brethren who reply with respect.
  • • Avoid politics, sectarian argument, and confidential matters.

Where questions will live

Questions and replies will be kept in the future Conversations Archive so future Brethren can read and learn from them. Until the archive is open, send questions through the submission route for editorial review.
